Emma Update

As some of you have heard, Emma is in the hospital with an infection in her neck. It's the early stages of an abscess. They are hoping to knock it down with IV antibiotics. If that doesn't work, they will have to do surgery and clean it out manually. The specialist came in today and he's coming back to evaluate her Monday sometime. Right now she is scheduled for surgery Tuesday morning. We are really hoping that the antibiotics work so she won't have to have surgery.
This all started on Friday when Emma came down with a fever. On Saturday she still had it and she stopped moving her neck, like she slept on it wrong or something. By Saturday night she had massive swelling on one side of her neck. We decided to take her into the ER. We got immediate attention since several of these signs pointed to Spinal Meningitis. Good thing she doesn't have that. They did a CT scan and then sent us over to Mary Bridge Children's hospital in Tacoma. Camille is there right now with her. There is absolutely no place for me to sleep there so I'm home, going back first thing in the morning.
An abscess happens in children usually from a ruptured lymph node (we have more when we are kids). The infection from this can snowball into a round pocket of pressurized infection. This has to be drained/removed in order for the body to heal. If you hit it with antibiotics before it hardens, you can recover without surgery. I'm just glad we live in modern times when we have such good doctors and medicines. A hundred years ago she would have died from something like this.
Please keep us in your prayers. That's the most we could ask for right now. Thanks.
