I have a system for laundry. Everyone puts their laundry in one hamper in the master bath. As our family has grown, I've started to wonder if I should resort to separate hampers in the kids rooms, or a larger family one. I do an occasional load here and there, but typically I save it all up for Mondays. By Monday, the hamper is so full the lid won't shut. I start the first load before I head out for my morning run and I try to finish the last load before the kids get home from school in the afternoon. I fold all the laundry except for the kids stuff. Each of them have their own pile of clothes to fold and put away which they are expected to do before dinner.
Linsey doesn't seem phased by this task, she can fold her laundry and put it away in minutes. Even little Emma folds things in her own creative way and shoves them in drawers. Hunter however, really hates doing his laundry and in turn detests Mondays. If he ever sees me doing a load of laundry during the week, he'll ask in a panicky voice if it's Monday and the relief is obvious when I say it's any other day.
This past week, we were gone on Monday. It was Memorial Day and we were visiting the cousins. Not only that, but because of the weekend trip, we brought home a stuffed laundry bag of dirty clothes. There are almost 2 weeks of dirty clothes for 5 people stacked up in our poor laundry hamper.
Hunter walked in and carefully balanced his pajamas on top of the laundry pile this morning. He asked me, "What day is it mom?" I answered that it was Saturday. He responded, "It really needs to be Monday because the laundry is overflowing our house!"

So funny! I can just imagine that panicy little voice! Good luck catching up, I hate catching up laundry!
Wow Camille, you are seriously so lucky to only have to do laundry on Mondays. My basket looks like that every 3-4 days. The kids even have their own baskets. Seriously funny though, when my basket gets like that, Dave starts balancing things on top of it like gift bags, shoes a scooter one time, boxes, to give me the hint that I need to get with it. Hehehe. I am glad yours looks like that occasionally too, now I don't feel so bad about myself. That is a great idea about making your kids put their own away. I put everyone's away and it takes me a couple days to get through it all. I may start doing that!
I HATE LAUNDRY! It never goes away. It's nice that Linsey doesn't mind helping. My kids whine when they have to help. We do laundry every Friday and Monday. (Or whenever Ben says, "Mom! I'm out of socks!)
I've so been there. Yesterday, in fact. I was able to make a huge dent in it but will still be doing several loads tomorrow. Hunter, I feel your pain.
I think of you every time I do laundry and think of how you get it all done in one day and wish I were as organized. I did, however, use your idea of having the kids fold their own laundry and was thrilled with how much less work it felt for me. I went about doing other chores while they were folding. Now we just need to make it a habit like you guys do.
Good luck tomorrow.
That's hilarious! I can totally see Hunter-man saying that.
I think Hunter and our little Jack are going to have a lot in common. =)
That is a huge pile-have fun!
I need to get my kids more involved in laundry. Many times they are pulling clean clothes out of their laundry baskets until it is empty and the pile on their floor of dirty clothes is huge.
I think I need help!
So cute- I wonder what he'll think of his pile of clean clothes... It was good to catch up on your blog today!
Heh heh heh... that's pretty darn funny.
Seems like you have a great system going. Good job!
And your Memorial Day sure looked fun. That backyard rocks! Where can I get me a water slide like that? Can adults go on it too? :)
Ciao.
