Many pregnant women talk about a nesting instinct, the powerful urge to prepare their home for the baby by cleaning and decorating. I always think, man that would be nice but it never really happens to me. One of my friends loves the scent of Pine Sol and during her third trimester she has to use it daily somewhere in her house. I wish I felt that way, but my last 3 pregnancies I never really did. Instead I feel sluggish and unmotivated; I find that I only do what is absolutely necessary. I feel sore and my belly is big, I can barely bend over the edge of the tub to scrub it, so I don't bother. Lately my kids have been doing the vacuuming and cleaning the bathrooms. Normally, I would follow after them to make sure things were cleaned to my standards, but lately I just think, it's better than it was before and it's going to have to do for now. I justify that it will all be over soon anyway.
I’m not sure what makes this pregnancy different from the others, but I think that nesting instinct might actually be kicking in. I’ve definitely found myself doing odd chores like cleaning out closets and drawers, rearranging furniture and this past week I’ve been sewing crib bedding. It’s so nice to once again feel somewhat productive. I did hit a small stumbling block though. My sewing machine broke. I was so close to finishing and then my machine that’s performed so well for the past 9 years quit on me. It’s not an expensive machine, but it’s been through 3 moves and lots of projects and has never given me any problems so I guess I shouldn’t complain. I was so bummed about it though. I’m not sure which was worse, the fact that it broke or that I couldn’t finish my project. I tried all the trouble shooting tips that my manual gave and then I asked Jared to take a look at it while I took off to a school event the other night. I came home and you can imagine my shock when I saw this!

Unfortunately, Jared wasn’t able to find the problem, but I’m glad he was able to put it back together for me. I took it to the repair shop today and we’ll see if it’s worth fixing. In the meantime, maybe I’ll have to think about cleaning something with Pine Sol.

Wow! Hope it gets fixed soon! Can't wait to see pics of your project :)
Wow! I have never seen the guts of a sewing machine! Looks like a project my boys would really like! Hope it gets better!
Yeah, I laughed out loud when I saw this...nice work Jared!!
I laughed out loud when I read this and saw the picture! Wow. So did you go clean with pinesol? Isn't it the best??!! I was laughing when I read that because I had just scrubbed down the kitchen, 2 bathrooms and the laundry room with the stuff this morning. You know what else floated my boat? Soft Scrub. Man, I love that stuff. And no I am not pregnant again, just love it. If I lived closer, I'd come clean your house for you and let you borrow my machine Camille!
Sorry about your machine but mine is always open for shop if you'd like to borrow it!!! Seriously the times I get mine out to sew are SERIOUSLY few and far between...plus I just made a stack of baby blankets so I'm good for awhile, let me know! Your bumper rails are prob adorable- you are a fantastic sewer, you must post after they are done!
Oh my goodness! I would be a little freaked myself if my sewing machine looked like that. I love to sew also! It is so great to see the end result...so I hope you get it fixed so you can finish your baby bedding!
It's so frustating when your sewing machine breaks, I have had that happen far to many times. Let me know if you need to borrow a machine, mine is available. I can't wait to see what you are working on, I'm sure it will be adorable.
Nothing is worse than being brought to a dead stop when you have such momentum going. I would be bummed about not being able to finish. Last fall I had an $80 repair on my machine. Repairs can be pricey. I think it's sad when it's not worth it to fix something. I got my Brother from Costco about 6 year ago and it's been pretty good. It was under $200. Whatever you do, don't watch the home shopping network. Once I caught a show on sewing machines, surgers and I wanted them all! :)
Do show what you're working on:)
So how's your machine doing? Were you able to get it fixed? Hope so. I laughed when you said you didn't know what made you more upset...the broken machine, or unfinished project. Darn. After all those blankies you've made for everyone else, you can't even make your own. That sucks. Hope you're feeling well!
Thanks to everyone who offered to let me borrow their sewing machines. Good news, I just got my mine back and it works like a charm!! Yippee!
