Gratitude

This is a scene I will never forget!!!

This has been an eventful summer for our family.  We've done several major projects and we are tired.  Jared and I have worked side by side from morning til night on Saturdays, we've had family work days, I've watched my hardworking husband get up early in the morning before work and work long into the evenings - working til every muscle ached.

The last major thing we needed to finish was to get this overwhelming pile of soil spread over the backyard so we can plant grass.  The kids thought it was great fun to play in, but when you think of filling wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow and hauling it to the backyard... that's a ton of work.

Jared sent out a plea for help from our friends and I can't begin to describe how simply touched we were to have 35 people show up to help us.

They came starting at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, shovels and wheelbarrows in hand, ready to work.  Those 2 piles of soil were spread in less than 2 hours.  We had one more pile delivered an hour later (total of 45 yards) and another wave of help arrived to help us spread that.   Someone who was unable to help move dirt stopped by with fresh baked cookies for those who were working.  So thoughtful!

At one point someone in the neighborhood drove by and with a look of shock on her face mouthed the words WOW!!!  I'm not sure if she was blown away by the amount of dirt we had moved so quickly, or by the hardworking crew we had.  Probably both.  It was simply amazing to say the least.  My mother-in-law pulled up at about 9:00 and said it was worth driving out just to witness the event.  I'm a bit emotional as I think about how grateful Jared and I are for all of these great friends and family who happily and willingly came to help us.  My heart is full and all I can say is Thank You, Thank You!  As soon as we have grass we will have a giant BBQ.
