A quick gettaway

We're so lucky. Jared and I got to run off to Utah last weekend kid-free. It's been a long time since we've done something like this, and it was a much needed-much appreciated break.

We got to visit temple square. The Salt Lake Temple is one of my all-time favorite temples. It's just so beautiful and as a child, it's the temple I always thought of when I made the goal to go to the temple someday.

Since I've been there last, they have a miniature replica in the visitors center that shows what the rooms inside the temple look like. It's beautiful and pretty amazing, the details are impressive.

We were able to go to the conference center for a session of General Conference. That was definitely the highlight of the weekend for me. We were able to get really good seats right up front....
...in this big, big building.
Many of the General Authorities came in early and mingled with the audience before the session started. I got to shake hands with Richard G. Scott and L. Tom Perry asked me to take a picture of him and a missionary.

We were only allowed to take pictures before and after the session. As they left, they waved to the audience. Here is Elder Bednar and his wife.
L. Tom Perry

Just looking at this picture of President Monson reminds me of the amazing spirit that was in the room, as giant as it was.
This little boy was sitting just to the side of us.
As the prophet was leaving and he stopped and waved for that little boy to come to him.
He asked him if he was planning to serve a mission. The little boy didn't even hesitate and replied, "Yes!" Then, the prophet put his hand up and gave him a high five. It was a sweet little moment.
One of the other reasons we made the trip out to Utah was to go to Jared's mission reunion. He was able to visit with some old friends from his mission and he see his old mission president, President Norman.

Here we are with Steve and Jamie Lundwall. Jared and Steve were roommates and they also served in the same mission. Then, Steve, Jared, Jamie and I were all in the same ward at Ricks College after their missions. We had fun going to dinner with them, reminiscing college days and telling stories about the crazy things everyone did, (mostly Jared).
(sorry, I didn't bring the nice camera so these pictures are not the best)

We had to take a trip to Provo to visit BYU campus. This is the building that Jared spent half or more of his college life studying at. It still looks exactly the same.
We were able to visit both of our brothers while we were in Provo. I'm so glad that we still have family there because it gives us the excuse to visit, I really do love BYU and hope that my kids will want to go there someday too. And yes, it was really nice to see Anthony and Mike (Emma, Jack and Luke too).

Shortly after Jared and I were married, we met another couple Dustin and Nancy and in no time at all we became the best of friends. They are the type of friends that you have for life.

It was so fun to visit them and their darling family. Nancy and I had a great time shopping and going to lunch while the guys went fishing to an old spot that the four of us used to fish together back in the good ol' days (before we had kids).

This walk down the railroad tracks...
...and the pictures of this river bring back a flood of memories for me.
We used to throw our fishing stuff into the back of our little black truck and head out t0 the Price River on a whim. We always caught fish. It's the river that both Jared and I learned to fly fish on.
The weekend went fast. We wish we were able to visit more of our relatives and friends, but we are grateful that we were able to do as much as we did. I was reminded of how much I love Utah. It really is a wonderful place and I love spending time with Jared without all the distractions... yes those would be our kids, although we love them very much and it was fun to come home to a big sign hanging on the garage that said, "WELCOME HOME!"

How fun! Next time you're down here, you have to save some time to visit me! I know Anthony is cute, but who's really important here!?
