Some people have a picture of their children with Santa every Christmas. I do not. My children are not the type that easily talk with other adults, and especially with people they don't know. When I took Linsey as a small toddler to visit Santa for the first time, I suspected that she would be nervous. I talked to her about Santa and told her how wonderful and nice he was, but to no avail when her time came she clutched her arms around my neck so tight I thought I might choke. Every time I leaned towards Santa her grip would tighten even more. There was NO WAY she was going to sit on this strange man's lap. As a toddler Linsey was especially shy and she was afraid of most men. Her fears grew more intense if they were large, had facial hair, or wore a hat. Santa was all of the above. For several years we saw Santa from a distance and sent him letters.
This was the first picture we had taken with Santa. Linsey is 3 1/2 and Hunter is 1. You can tell that she is trying so hard to be brave but I'm sure she was thinking, "mom, hurry up and take the picture so we can go." Hunter obviously did not enjoy the experience.

So I won't take it personally that Linsey pretends she doesn't know me when I see her in the hallways of the school. And I am not a large male, bearded or wearing a hat.
But really, Santa can be frightening to lots of kids. And your kids look so cute in the pictures regardless.
Cute picture!
We are in that stage right now. Last year James held on so tight to Matt and leaned as far away from Santa as possible. It makes for funny pictures to look back on. We are really debating on the whole Santa thing this year. I know James won't want to get anywhere close. Santa is good as a toy, but that's about it.
Cute pictures, and they make for fun memories. Santa is not the most friendly and inviting looking man- it's a wonder any child will sit on his lap, candy canes as a bribe or not!
Yep, I think that is how the whole give-em-a-candy-cane-as-a-bribe-thing came to be! Santa is definitely an acquired taste!
What fun pictures! Wow- Emma's hair is really growing out!
Cute family! I'm glad I'm not the only one with petrified-of-Santa kids. I loved your Christmas card. (especially 2 + 1 = way more than 3!) And congrats on the calling! That'll teach ya to not be so good and reliable in everything you do! :)
